Code of Conduct

The Maine Discovery Museum is a place where children and families learn through play and exploration. We appreciate the support of visitors, volunteers, partners, and staff in upholding our mission of engaging children and families in joyful discovery experiences. While in the Museum, we request all visitors adhere to the following principles and behavior:

Stay Home if Unwell

If you or anyone in your party is experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms or has recently been in contact with someone confirmed or suspected of having COVID-19, please stay home. If you or anyone in your party has other symptoms consistent with the flu or other highly contagious diseases, we also ask that you please stay home.

Respect Your Fellow Visitors

We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone. The Museum does not tolerate discrimination or any form of unlawful harassment, including but not limited to sexual harassment. Accordingly, the Museum absolutely prohibits harassment or discrimination based on ability, age, color, ethnicity, race, family or marital status, sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, pregnancy, and related medical conditions, language, national origin, political affiliation, religion, socioeconomic status, veteran status, health status, and other dimensions of diversity.

Face Coverings and Masks

Face coverings remain one of the best ways to prevent virus transmission. The CDC recommends wearing masks indoors for everyone in public areas of substantial or high transmission as well as for the protection of those who are at a “higher risk."

MDM will require masks if COVID community levels increase to levels of increased risk. When COVID-19 Community Levels are at low and medium risk, face coverings are optional but highly recommended for all visitors 2 years of age and older. When COVID-19 Community Levels are at high risk, face coverings will be required for all visitors 2 years of age and older regardless of vaccination status. Museum staff will be masked until conditions around COVID vaccinations for our youngest patrons have changed, or when virus transmission levels are at extremely low levels.

Reusable masks are available for purchase in the Museum store.

Vaccination Requirements

Participants in Museum camps and special events must show proof of vaccination. Proof of vaccination is NOT currently required for daily STEAM programming.

Wash Your Hands Frequently and Thoroughly

Hand-washing is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your family from getting sick.

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

Additionally

For the safety of all staff and visitors, all firearms and weapons are prohibited except for those carried by law enforcement and other approved security personnel. Smoking and/or vaping are also prohibited.
